Capricorn aids children's home
More than 30 Capricorn Group ChangeMakers joined members of Namibia’s national women’s cricket team, the Capricorn Eagles, and representatives from several local businesses and organisations in a community outreach initiative at Namibia Children’s Home.
The home provides care to more than 120 orphans and vulnerable children.
The initiative brought together volunteers from Capricorn Group, NeoPaints, Central Knights Security and Imago Dei to support improvements at the facility and provide donations to children living at the home.
Ahead of the outreach, Capricorn Group employees collected and donated warm clothing, socks, beanies and blankets, which were handed over to the children.
Volunteers also focused on renovating the home’s play park, an outdoor recreational area used by the children. Activities included cleaning, painting and general maintenance aimed at improving the appearance and safety of the space.
NeoPaints supplied paint for the project, while members of its team assisted with the renovation work.
Central Knights Security said it would support additional repairs to damaged play park equipment to help improve safety and usability for children using the facility.
The outreach was coordinated by Capricorn Group in partnership with Imago Dei, an organisation that assists in identifying community projects and areas of need.
The Capricorn Eagles also took part in the initiative, spending time with the children and donating two cricket kits to the home.
Organisers said the players’ participation provided an opportunity for children to engage with role models while promoting teamwork and leadership.
Emilia Nzuzi, chief superintendent of Namibia Children’s Home, thanked the volunteers and partner organisations for their contribution.
“On behalf of the children and staff of the Namibia Children's Home, we would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Capricorn Group ChangeMakers and their partner volunteers for their generous support and commitment to improving the lives of our children,” she said.
She said the donated winter clothing and blankets would provide comfort during the colder months.
Nzuzi also welcomed the improvements made to the play park.
“We also greatly appreciate the renovation of the Home's play park, an important outdoor space where the children can relax, interact and enjoy recreational activities. Your assistance with cleaning, painting and carrying out general improvements has transformed the area into a brighter, safer and more welcoming environment for the children,” she said.
Marlize Horn, Capricorn Group’s chief brand and corporate affairs officer, said the initiative formed part of the company's ChangeMakers programme, which encourages employees to participate in community-based projects.
“Through the ChangeMakers programme, we bring our purpose of being Connectors of Positive Change to life by giving our employees opportunities to serve communities in practical and meaningful ways,” she said.
“This outreach reflects what is possible when people and partners come together to support children, uplift shared spaces and invest in Namibia’s future.”
Capricorn Group said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to bring together employees, partners and community stakeholders to support projects addressing community needs.
