As part of Old Mutual’s commitment to supporting educational excellence and empowering future leaders, the company awarded three full and three partial bursaries to outstanding students pursuing their studies in Actuarial Science.

Students that were awarded full bursaries are Haily Shipandeka, Oleksandra Makarenko and Cecilia Kandowa, all first-year students registered at the Stellenbosch University.

In addition to the full bursary awards, Old Mutual Namibia also provided partial funding or tuition assistance to Demarscho Mouton (1st Year), Secilia Nakapela (1st Year) and Maximilian Hower (3rd Year).

Mignon du Preez, Old Mutual Namibia’s group marketing, public affairs, and sustainability executive emphasised the importance of empowering the youth through education.

“At Old Mutual, we understand the critical role that Actuaries play in shaping the financial and insurance industries. Their expertise in risk assessment, financial modelling, and long-term planning is essential to ensuring stability and innovation in our sector. By investing in young Actuarial talent, we are strengthening the profession as a whole and ensuring that we continue to build a pipeline of skilled professionals who can tackle the evolving challenges of the industry,” she said.

Since its inception, the bursary initiative has already benefited three talented students. Two of these students are successfully employed by Old Mutual Namibia, while the third is in her second year of studies at Stellenbosch University. This demonstrates the positive impact of Old Mutual’s bursary programme in developing skilled professionals who are now contributing to Namibia’s financial sector.

The recipients were selected based on several factors, including academic performance, and financial need amongst others.

“Old Mutual is excited to support these students as they work towards their qualifications and look forward to their future contributions to Namibia’s financial sector,” Du Preez concluded.
