Namibia launches first-ever greencycle expo

Namibia hosted the ReThink Waste GreenCycle Expo 2025, a landmark national initiative aimed at transforming waste into economic opportunity and accelerating the country’s transition to a circular economy.

Held on 13 and 14 November 2025 at the Wanderers Sports Club in Windhoek, the inaugural event positioned Namibia as an emerging leader in sustainable innovation, moving beyond traditional waste management to closing critical sustainability gaps.

The expo addressed a central national paradox: although Namibia ranks among the top 10 cleanest countries in Africa, it continues to experience a hidden economic loss as valuable recyclable materials are buried in landfills or exported each year. The event directly responded to this challenge, promoting the conversion of overlooked waste into “circular capital” by addressing regulatory gaps, unlocking green investment, and shifting the national mindset from “take-make-dispose” to recognising waste as a resource.

Platform for national development

The expo brought together more than 200 high-level participants, including policymakers, investors, private-sector leaders and international partners, alongside 30 innovative exhibitors and leading industry speakers.

A highlight was the strong presence of youth-led initiatives pioneering practical, scalable recycling and upcycling solutions across the country. By supporting these young entrepreneurs, the Expo contributed to green job creation and skills development among Namibia’s most dynamic demographic, demonstrating that local innovation is vital for addressing national challenges and building future-ready industries.

High-level objectives

The expo is committed to:

• Accelerating the circular economy by making circular principles actionable for businesses and government.

• Fostering innovation and investment in recycling, waste-to-energy projects, and sustainable materials.

• Empowering youth and creating jobs through entrepreneurship and skills development in the green sector.

• Informing national policy by facilitating essential dialogue between government, industry, and civil society to harmonise waste-management regulations and develop robust resource-recovery infrastructure across Namibia.

• Raising national awareness about the impact of improper waste disposal and inspiring widespread community participation in responsible consumption and recycling habits.

The Namibia ReThink Waste GreenCycle Expo 2025 is a collaborative initiative between Creations Industrial Design and Aligned Sustainability and Environmental Consultants (ASEC). It is strategically endorsed by the Ministry of International Relations and Trade (MIRT) and the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT), and supported by a consortium of government entities and private partners.
