Namibia Explores SA Fresh Produce Market Models
Namibia’s Minister of Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani, on Thursday, 27 November, led a delegation to the Cape Town Fresh Market Produce in Ebbing, Cape Town. The visit took place on the sidelines of her bilateral meeting with her South African counterpart.
The delegation included officials from Namibia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, the Namibia Consulate in Cape Town, the South African Department of Agriculture, and the Namibia Agronomic Board (NAB). David Nortje, Floor Manager of the market, guided the group through the facility, explaining its operations, market share, producer relationships, and off-take agreements.
Minister Zaamwani said the visit aimed to study South Africa’s market systems with the goal of adapting similar models in Namibia. The initiative seeks to enhance local production, ensure food self-sufficiency, and increase profitability for Namibian producers, leveraging expertise from the Ministry and the Agro-Marketing and Trade Agency (AMTA).
