Blessed Garden's guide to indoor landscaping

Landscaping is no longer restricted to gardens and yards. According to Paskaline Ngunaihe, the founder of Blessed Garden Namibia, Namibians are increasingly welcoming nature into their homes and workplaces, creating refreshing, calming spaces.

Established in 2022 as one of her Covid-19 projects, Ngunaihe launched Blessed Garden to provide easy access to plants and ornamental greenery, catering to those seeking affordable, aesthetic and functional landscaping options indoors. “Plants not only enhance aesthetics, but they also purify the air, creating a healthier atmosphere,” she shared.

Blessed Garden’s offerings range from plant gift sets to custom landscaping, all designed to bring serenity and freshness to various spaces.

Creating the right ambiance

Ngunaihe emphasised that choosing the right plants and placing them thoughtfully can drastically change the ambiance of a room. For small spaces, she recommended succulents or smaller plants, which add personality without taking up too much room. Larger areas, like living or dining rooms, can host more substantial plants, such as fiddle-leaf figs or monsteras, which add a bold, natural element to home décor.

Indoor plants not only add beauty but also alleviate stress, helping to calm the mind and promote relaxation. “It’s a way to create a private, comfortable environment where you feel at home,” she added.

Best picks for office spaces

Plants in the workplace can help reduce stress and improve air quality. For office spaces, Ngunaihe recommends snake plants and ferns - which are low-maintenance and thrive in a range of lighting conditions. The aloe vera plant is also another option for office settings, as it’s both decorative and helps purify the air, she said. She highlighted the importance of positioning plants near natural light sources, as they thrive in well-lit environments. “Lighting, size and placement are key factors in creating a balanced look,” she advised. A well-placed plant near a window can benefit from natural light, creating a harmonious indoor environment.

Landscaping trends and local ornaments

She explained that landscaping is about 'beautifying your space', from gardens and office lobbies to residential interiors. Recently, statement walls, a feature wall covered with plants, have become popular, adding an eye-catching touch to any area. In addition to plants, Blessed Garden also offers locally produced garden ornaments, supporting Namibian artisans. These pieces personalise any green space, providing unique character and charm. Ngunaihe encouraged buyers to select items they love and, when possible, purchase ornaments in pairs to maintain symmetry and balance.

Maintaining green health

She advised novice plant owners to choose low-maintenance plants like succulents that store water. “Water them once a week, depending on the environment, and avoid over-watering.” With the right care, indoor plants can thrive, bringing lasting beauty and tranquility to indoor spaces. From air-purifying plants to locally crafted ornaments, Ngunaihe's work helps Namibians cultivate greener, healthier and more welcoming indoor spaces.
