Innovative agricultural board game launches with Nedbank sponsorship

An exciting new agriculturally themed board game, developed in Namibia, has been launched with the support of Nedbank Namibia. Designed to educate and entertain, this unique game – Farmwise – fosters understanding of the challenges and rewards of farming while promoting collaboration between farmers, labourers, and their families.

The idea for the game was born in an unexpected moment of frustration suffered by game developer Piet Gouws. After he had found himself stranded with a flat tyre and no car jack, he used the time spent on waiting for help by brainstorming on how to educate farm labourers in a way that was engaging and impactful.

Initially created for farmers and their employees, the game has evolved into a versatile tool for a broader audience. It benefits resettled and emerging farmers, urban families looking to understand farming, and even tourists seeking a meaningful Namibian souvenir. By addressing financial, human, natural and physical resources, the game uses informal learning to build relationships, understanding and responsibility among players.

The first 100 limited-edition games are available directly from the developer, with distribution plans underway with Sam’s Hobbies and Toys in Windhoek. Gouws\'s vision is to expand the reach of the game into regional and international markets.

\"This is more than a game,\" he said. \"It’s a locally produced product that celebrates Namibia while contributing to the future of its farming community.\"

A bursary fund that helps children of Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) members achieve their dreams of a tertiary education, will receive 40% of the profits from the game.

Nedbank Namibia has applauded Gouws for his innovation in creating this impactful game. Nedbank Namibia Head of Business Banking John Tromp, remarked: \"As money experts who do good, we are a proud supporter of sustainable development in Namibia. We are thrilled to sponsor a project that not only educates and entertains, but also empowers communities. This game reflects the resilience and creativity of our nation while also addressing critical challenges in agriculture. It’s a brilliant way to connect people and inspire responsibility.\"

Locally manufactured to the highest quality standards, the game incorporates years of thoughtful design. With features such as customisable asset cards, it can be adapted to meet the specific needs of various players. Plans are already underway for future updates and expansions, ensuring the game remains dynamic and relevant.
