MTC 4 Life targets //Kharas youth

MTC has officially announced the commencement of the MTC 4 Life 2026 project, an initiative designed to equip young Namibians with practical skills and entrepreneurial tools to build sustainable livelihoods.

This year, the programme will focus on empowering 30 young people from the ǁKharas Region, specifically targeting self-employed and unemployed individuals between the ages of 18 and 35. The initiative seeks to tackle youth unemployment by combining hands-on vocational training with essential business development support.

Participants will undergo seven days of intensive practical training in various trades, including hairdressing, barbering, baking, leatherwork, sewing, and mobile phone repair. Each trade will accommodate at least five trainees, ensuring focused mentorship and effective skills transfer.

Beyond the initial training, beneficiaries will receive starter toolkits relevant to their chosen trade and a seed grant of N$5,000 to assist in launching or expanding their micro-enterprises. The programme is structured to transition participants from dependency to self-reliance by providing both the technical expertise and the financial foundation required to generate an income.

MTC chief brand, marketing, communications, and sustainability officer Tim Ekandjo said the programme reflects MTC’s broader commitment to national development. He said the company aims to invest in initiatives that change lives and empower youth to shape their own futures, contributing to a Namibia that future generations can be proud of.

The 2026 cycle is scheduled to begin in April and will be rolled out in collaboration with regional stakeholders to ensure maximum benefit for the selected participants. By investing in practical skills and entrepreneurship, the initiative aims to strengthen local economies and create tangible opportunities for young people.

Interested youth in the ǁKharas Region are encouraged to visit the MTC website for more information and to download the application form. Completed forms may be submitted to the MTC head office or hand-delivered to MTC mobile homes in Lüderitz, Keetmanshoop, and Oranjemund.
