Germany supports Namibia in green energy transition TVET training
Germany will provide Namibia with more support regarding the green energy transition as well as in technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
Both the governments of the Federal Republic of Germany and of the Republic of Namibia agreed on continuing their successful development cooperation at the inter-governmental negotiations which were amicably concluded on 13 November 2025 in Lüderitz.
The federal ministry for economic cooperation and development (BMZ) committed a total of €43.8 million (approximately N$876 million) for projects in sustainable urban development, vocational training, green and sustainable energy, and sustainable natural resource management to support the Namibian government in achieving its goals in line with the National Development Plan 6 (NDP 6).
Namibia has committed to providing all citizens with affordable, reliable, and clean energy in the future. The medium-term objective is to increase access to electricity from approximately 59% today to 70% in 2030 and then to reach universal access by the year 2040, as stated in NDP 6. Germany will contribute to improving energy access, particularly in peri- urban and rural areas, and to further developing the renewable energy sector in Namibia.
This includes strengthening capacities with regard to planning and strategy development, infrastructure for decentralised energy solutions as well as creating sustainable value chains for raw materials that are critical to the green energy transition.
Further, Germany committed to continuing its support to technical and vocational education and training, focusing on quality, labour market relevance, and the inclusion of youth and marginalised groups also in sectors that are key to the green energy transition.
Cooperation in the TVET sector is aligned with Namibia’s reform agenda under the TVET Policy 2021. To achieve this goal we build on the significant work on governance reforms, work-integrated-learning, and training of trainers that has been already completed.
