Transporting the transformer
A massive convoy transporting a refurbished high voltage power transformer to NamPower’s Gerus Substation outside Otjiwarongo, passed Kapps Farm, near the Hosea Kutako International Airport and Windhoek on Friday. The convoy moved along the Hage Geingob freeway towards the capital and proceeded to the Van Eck power station, where it was stationed for the weekend until it proceeded northwards to the Gerus Substation yesterday. According to NamPower, the cargo originates from Eskom Rotex Industries where the transformer was refurbished. The transformer was transported to South Africa in 2019 and returned to Namibia seven years later. The 100m combination, which is made up of multiple trucks, travelled at an average speed of 25km/h and covered approximately 80 km per day.
