China–Namibia plans align
China’s annual “Two Sessions” have concluded, providing a critical window into the nation's policy direction as it enters the opening year of the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development. Against a backdrop of sluggish global growth and regional conflicts, the Chinese government has reaffirmed its commitment to economic resilience and high-standard opening up.
Economic Resilience and Technological Empowerment
The Report on the Work of the Government reveals that China’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 5% in 2025, reaching $20 trillion. Over the past five years, China has accounted for approximately 30% of global growth—a contribution exceeding that of the G7 nations combined. For 2026, China has set a growth target of 4.5% to 5%.
A key pillar of the 15th Five-Year Plan is technology empowerment. China continues to lead in the research and application of high-tech industries, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), biomedicine, robotics, quantum technology, and new-energy vehicles. These innovations are intended to make the Chinese economy smarter, greener, and more sustainable.
Expanding Market Access and African Cooperation
China is transitioning from being "the world’s factory" to becoming "the world’s market." To support trade liberalisation, China has granted unilateral visa exemptions to 50 countries and made mutual visa-free arrangements with 29 others.
Crucially for regional partners, China will implement zero-tariff access for 100% of African imports effective from 1 May 2026. Negotiations are also underway for the China–Africa Common Development Partnership Agreement (CADEPA). These measures, alongside an upgraded "green channel" for African products, are designed to expand market access and provide new opportunities for economic cooperation.
Diplomacy and Peace in the Middle East
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China’s diplomacy firmly upholds the international rule of law and opposes unilateralism and power politics. Regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Wang Yi said that the war is one "that should not have happened." He outlined fundamental principles for a solution, including respecting national sovereignty, rejecting the abuse of force, and promoting political settlements. China stands ready to work with Middle Eastern countries to implement the Global Security Initiative and restore regional tranquility.
The China–Namibia Partnership
The year 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and African nations and has been designated as the China–Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
In Namibia, the Chinese Embassy said that the 15th Five-Year Plan aligns closely with Namibia’s 6th National Development Plan in both timeline and strategic direction. China remains committed to supporting Namibia’s development path and will host various events, including a “Chinese and Namibian Cultural Temple Fair,” to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
