Poultry producers reminded to register

The Poultry Producers Association (PPA) has reminded all poultry producers in Namibia that registration with the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia (LLPBN) is a legal requirement under the Livestock and Livestock Products Act, 1981 (Act No. 12 of 1981), as amended.

The PPA is affiliated with the Namibia Agricultural Union. According to the association, poultry is legally classified as livestock in terms of the Act, while poultry products fall under controlled livestock products. As a result, any individual or business involved in the production, keeping, processing, selling or marketing of poultry or poultry products is required by law to be registered with the LLPBN.

The association warned that failure to comply with the registration requirement constitutes an offence under the Act. Non-compliant producers may, upon conviction, face fines, penalties or other enforcement measures as stipulated in the legislation.

The PPA said the registration process is aimed at supporting regulatory compliance within the poultry sector, improving traceability and strengthening the formal poultry value chain in Namibia. Registered producers are also better positioned to operate within the regulated market environment and align with national livestock control measures.

Poultry producers who are not yet registered are encouraged to contact either the PPA or the LLPBN for guidance and assistance with the registration process.

For further information or enquiries, producers can contact Leigh-Ann Nehoya via email at stats@nau.com.na or on 082 409 9320.
