Not light delivery vehicle by name, but definitely by performance

Although the name LDV is often associated with light delivery vehicles, the acronym actually stands for Leyland DAF Vans, reflecting the brand’s commercial vehicle heritage in the United Kingdom. Today, LDV forms part of the SAIC Motor Group, one of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers.

The brand’s commercial vehicle range is expanding in Southern Africa, with models designed to meet the demands of businesses that depend on reliable transport, practical cargo space and operational flexibility.

For Namibian businesses, from courier companies and retailers to farms, workshops and tourism operators, the range includes the G10+ urban delivery van, the larger Deliver 9 commercial van and the T60 Utility and T60 Max Plus bakkies.

G10+

The LDV G10+ is a light commercial van designed for urban deliveries and businesses that need a balance between manoeuvrability and cargo capacity.

With a payload of 1 040kg and a cargo volume of 5.2m³, it offers space for goods and equipment while remaining suited to everyday delivery operations.

The G10+ is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine producing 118kW and 375Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. Its stated fuel consumption is 7.9 litres per 100km, while a 72-litre fuel tank and a braked towing capacity of 1,500kg add to its versatility.

Safety features include forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, electronic stability control, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system and dual front airbags.

Loading and unloading are supported by dual sliding side doors and rear barn doors that open to 180 degrees. Inside, a 12.3” infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provides connectivity, while leather captain’s seats with armrests and air conditioning add to driver comfort.

The G10+ could suit courier and parcel services, e-commerce deliveries, food distribution, mobile trades and businesses requiring specialised conversions, including refrigerated transport and mobile pharmacies.

Deliver 9

For businesses that need greater cargo capacity, the LDV Deliver 9 is a larger commercial van designed for transporting goods and supporting specialist vehicle conversions.

Powered by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine producing 128kW and 420Nm, the Deliver 9 is paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. It offers a payload of up to 1,580kg, cargo capacity of 12.33m³ and a braked towing capacity of 2 800kg.

These specifications make it a potential option for logistics operators, distribution businesses and companies that need to transport bulky goods or equipment.

The cabin includes a 12.3” infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, air conditioning, a multifunction steering wheel, an eight-way adjustable driver’s seat and storage compartments.

A sliding side door, wide-opening rear barn doors and an integrated rear step are designed to make loading and unloading easier.

The Deliver 9 received an ANCAP Gold safety rating in 2024, according to product information. Its driver assistance and safety features include blind spot detection, lane change assist, emergency lane keeping, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a high-definition reversing camera, and front, side and curtain airbags.

The van can also be adapted for specialist applications, including refrigerated transport, ambulances, mobile workshops, service vehicles, courier operations and mobile clinics.

Its potential applications in Namibia range from goods distribution between towns to service operations that require space for tools, equipment and supplies. Suitability will depend on the vehicle configuration, operating conditions and the business’s specific requirements.

T60 Utility and T60 Max Plus

LDV’s commercial offering also includes the T60 Utility range, designed for work-related applications.

For businesses requiring a double-cab configuration, the T60 Max Plus is powered by a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine meeting Euro V emissions standards. It produces 160kW and 500Nm of torque.

Bakkies can be used across a range of Namibian industries, including agriculture, construction, maintenance and field services. Buyers should consider payload requirements, ground clearance, road conditions and the availability of servicing and parts when selecting a vehicle for demanding working environments.

From compact delivery vans to larger cargo vehicles and work-focused bakkies, LDV’s range offers different configurations for businesses with varying transport needs.

For operators, the choice will depend not only on purchase price and vehicle specifications, but also on fuel consumption, payload, maintenance costs, after-sales support and suitability for local operating conditions.
