Laughter marks four years of Savanna Comedy Hour

The Savanna Comedy Hour marked its fourth anniversary on Thursday, 4 September, with a celebratory showcase at Et Cetera, reaffirming its place as one of Namibia’s most consistent platforms for live comedy.

Hosted by co-founder and comic Axarob, the evening opened with Jandjie’s lively set, warming the audience for a string of performances that followed. Ritha, with her sharp delivery and relatable humor, stood out as one of the night’s strongest acts, while Lloyd The Comedian, Wilbard and Lifa kept the room alight with laughter. The lineup extended beyond stand-up: award-winning singer Waters took the stage for a musical interlude, adding a different rhythm to the evening.

Since its launch, the Savanna Comedy Hour has become a cornerstone of Windhoek’s comedy circuit. “Our consistency has been key to the success of the event and we are proud to see how many other comedy events have been inspired by Comedy Hour,” co-founder Vernon van Wyk told Network Media Hub. “New and old comedy clubs rising again, and comedians hosting their own shows; we are proud to say that Comedy Hour has made a difference.”

Over the past four years, the platform has staged more than 50 sold-out shows and featured over 40 comedians from across Namibia, many of whom have since built careers on its stage. Thursday’s anniversary celebration was not only a milestone but also a testament to the endurance of a scene that continues to expand.

The Savanna Comedy Hour’s fourth anniversary drew both loyal patrons and new fans, underscoring how a small stage can help foster a national movement in comedy.
