First-ever NAMCCA celebrates and rewards Namibian digital talent
The inaugural DStv Namibia Content Creators Awards (NAMCCA) made waves on Saturday, 9 November, at the National Theatre of Namibia, spotlighting a growing digital talent scene across the country.
Spearheaded by Pinehas ‘Zulu Boy’ Shikulo, NAMCCA, in partnership with DStv Namibia, marked a historic moment for Namibia’s content creators.
The glamorous evening kicked off with a stylish blue carpet affair hosted by Diana Masters, with nominees and attendees gracing the event with elegance and excitement.
The main awards show began at 19:00, hosted by award-winning TV personality Aina Raiza Kweyo and marketing mastermind Huncho Kapofi. Their lively energy and witty banter kept the audience entertained throughout the evening, adding to the electric atmosphere.
Among the highlights of the night was DJ Vuyo’s win for Song of the Year – one of the event’s most coveted categories, sparking cheers from the audience. Another standout moment was when Taimi Nuunyango received the Special Recognition Award, celebrating her outstanding contributions to the digital landscape.
Top winners of the night included Martin Pombili, who took home Content Creator of the Year along with the award for Comedy Content Creator. Other honourees included Ndapanda Haininga for Travel & Tourism Creator, Leoviich as Photographer of the Year, Spectrum Media for Videographer of the Year, Maria Nepembe as Fitness Content Creator, and Felcious as Emerging Travel & Tourism Creator.
New standard set
A notable lowlight of the ceremony was a limited number of live performances, with only two acts scheduled for the night. Sad Boyz International opened the show, followed by a performance by DJ Vuyo in between the show, which left the audience wishing for more live entertainment throughout the event.
Additionally, the evening faced some disruptions due to a few content creators arriving late, which slightly dampened the otherwise celebratory atmosphere.
Nevertheless, NAMCCA has set a new standard for Namibia’s digital creators, fostering a supportive platform that celebrates diversity and innovation in digital content. With Zulu Boy’s vision and DStv Namibia’s support, NAMCCA promises to become an annual event that will continue to uplift and recognise local talent.
