Capricorn Foundation committed to enhancing education

The Capricorn Foundation remains dedicated to investing in education, as one of its primary focus areas, by enhancing and promoting access to quality education, particularly for marginalised

communities in Namibia.

Through ongoing partnerships with Development Workshop, the African Leadership Institute, SPES Charity, Learn on One and the EduLight Project, the Capricorn Foundation has committed N$1.8 million towards leadership training for principals, infrastructure support for early childhood development centres, access to lessons via broadcast television, learning materials and providing vulnerable children with solar lights for studying.

"As a Connector of Positive Change, through our education portfolio, we aim to help Namibian learners and teachers alike succeed in their careers, studies and personal growth despite their

background and circumstances," said Marlize Horn, Executive Officer of the Capricorn Foundation.

About the projects:

The African Leadership Institute (ALI): The Capricorn Foundation has committed N$480 000 to ALI in its previous financial year, enabling the Project to train 20 public school

principals and heads of departments to undergo leadership training, between November 2024 – May 2025. ALI has concentrated on delivering various training programmes,

mentorship, workshops and capacity-building events that have significantly enhanced the leadership capabilities of public-school leaders and equipped them with the necessary tools

to address the challenges faced within the education sector.

Learn on One: LearnOnOne addresses the critical need for equitable access to quality supplementary education, particularly for vulnerable children in marginalised communities.

Learn on One provides high-quality educational resources aligned with the Namibian Curriculum (Grade 0-11 and AS Levels) directly to their homes via our accessible television-

based platform. The Capricorn Foundation has committed N$200,000.00 towards the Project.

SPES Charity: The Capricorn Foundation helps S.P.E.S. Charity support underprivileged children and youth through education and care. For over 17 years, S.P.E.S. (Step out of

Poverty through Education, Encouragement and Support) has worked with dedicated teachers to promote children's growth in mind, body and spirit. They provide weekly

outings and deliver four tons of nutritious food to preschools each month. This helps ensure that children have enough to eat and opportunities to grow, encouraging them to dream

beyond their current situations. The Capricorn Foundation committed N$300,000.00 towards the Project.

Development Workshop – Play for All Programme: The Play for All: Strengthening Early Childhood Development in Namibia Project enhances educational opportunities, improves

health and well-being and promotes socioeconomic development. The project creates a safe and conducive learning environment by enhancing ECD infrastructure, such as building

new toilets, classrooms and playgrounds. The Capricorn Foundation committed N$543,000.00 towards parental engagement initiatives, a hub, teaching and learning materials, capacity building for educarers and improved ECD infrastructure, for Rehoboth and its surrounding communities.

Edu-Light: The Capricorn Foundation has supported the Edu-Light initiative led by Greenville Solars with N$300,000.00 in its previous financial year, providing 1200 learners in

informal settlements and rural areas without electricity with solar lights in 2025. This project allows learners to study at night and reduces their need for paraffin and candles.

Mrs. September, Principal at Namib High School, said, “The ALI Leadership Programme compelled me to take an honest look within, to reflect deeply on the areas of my life that needed growth and renewal, personally as well as professionally. It reignited my passion for my work, my calling and my purpose. I found myself once again driven by the desire to love, lead and serve those around me with excellence and compassion. CTL gave me practical tools in effective management, communication and character-building that have improved not only my leadership, but also my team”.

The Capricorn Foundation is a Section 21 Company and a registered welfare organisation in Namibia. Established by the Capricorn Group in February 2020, the Capricorn Foundation is

celebrating five years of positive change in Namibia this year, investing N$37.4 million through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and projects. The Foundation extends its gratitude to Bank Windhoek, Capricorn Asset Management and Entrepo for their continued support in funding these life-changing initiatives.
